This is the third year a live auction will be held during Beef Week. It was a big success last year, and hopes are it will continue to grow.
The auction is modelled on the Royal Easter Show auction, whereby the 15 ribbon winning steers from the led competition are auctioned.
Buyers at the auction include Woolworths, Wingham Beef Exports, restaurateurs and butchers. Local butchers and members of the public are being invited to attend.
Wingham Beef Week committee member Charlie Cassels says the big vision is that members of the public can buy a steer at the auction, have it processed at Wingham Beef Exports, and nominate their own butcher. This way you can ensure you are eating your own prime quality home meat at wholesale prices.
The week will kick off at Wingham High School on Monday May 11 with a hands-on interactive education day for the local primary schools – always a huge hit with big and little kids alike.
An education morning will be held on the Tuesday at the showgrounds, with guest speakers and demonstrations for the competing schools, followed by the junior and open judging.
Wednesday is the day of the parade and judging of cattle continues on Thursday, followed by the live auction on Thursday afternoon.
Friday begins with the led section carcase viewing, and presentations start at 11am. The week is wrapped on Saturday night with the Beef Barons Ball.
