Prior to the game, the Wingham RSL conducted a moving ANZAC commemoration beginning this week remembering 100 years since the beginning of the Gallipol campaign.
When the game commenced, in the blink of an eye, the visitors led 18-0 after just eight minutes.
But then the Tigers struck back with back-to-back tries by Riki Toby and Tim Bridge, the latter converted by Luke Steel, to trail 18-10 after a quarter of an hour.
In the final seven minutes of the half, Port City added another two converted tries to lead 30-10 at the break.
The second half saw Wingham camped in the Breakers half. Joel Kleindeinst scored in the corner. Luke Steel kicked the sideline conversion to reduce the deficit to 30-16.
When Trent Green scored after a quarter of an hour, the margin was reduced to ten points.
Midway through the stanza, Blake Sky was denied a try in the right corner.
Five minutes later, Ben Welsh scored near the posts. Luke Steel's conversion was successful, and with that he became the Wingham Tiger's highest ever point scorer in First Grade in the long history of the club, breaking Brenden Summerfield's record.
Trailing now 30-26, twice Wingham players were held up over the goal line, being unable to level the scores.
Then with just five minutes remaining, on one of their few visits into Tiger territory in the second half, Port City came up with a try, and then added another soon afterwards to run out winners by 40-26.
Trent Green was named man of the match and received the David Steel memorial trophy.
(Riki Toby, Tim Bridge, Joel Kleindeinst, Trent Green, Ben Welsh tries, Luke Steel 3 goals)
Reserve grade
THE Tigers' Reserve Grade team found themselves trailing 6-0 early, before a try by Reece Slaven made the score 6-4.

Wingham continued their dominance in the second half with tries to Chris Butler (converted by Nick Beacham) and Corey Sheehan to lead 30-6.
When Cody Green scored his second try after 20 minutes, and Nick Beacham added the extra points, victory was assured with a 36-6 advantage.
