THE Group 3 Rugby League competition began on Saturday, with the Wingham Tigers travelling to Wauchope to take on the Blues, last season's minor premiers and grand finalist.

The home team scored early with a break from a scrum win to lead 6-0.
It was a similar story midway through the first half, but this time it was Matt Bridge cutting his way through the defence from a scrum to score under the posts. He converted his own try to level the scores at 6-6.
After some time defending their own goal line, the Blues found themselves in an attacking position, and scored to lead 10-6.
The score remained that way until half time, with both teams making plenty of errors in a scrappy half of football.
After the break, Wauchope minimised their errors, and scored back to back tries to lead 20-6 midway through the half.
Tim Bridge was sin-binned for back chat, and the Blues scored under the posts immediately afterwards to lead 26-6.
As some errors crept back into the home team's game, Wingham were able to score through Garyn Burns who caught a chip bomb to score out wide.
A few minutes later, Aaron Bakewell scored. The try was converted by Ben Welsh, making the final score 26-16.

Reserve grade
THE Reserve Grade game went down to the final siren, with the Tigers holding on for a 16-12 victory.
The home team scored first to lead 6-0 ten minutes from half time.
The scores were level at the break after Nick Beacham scored under the posts and converted his own try.
Ten minutes into the second stanza, Nick Beacham was in for another try, which he converted to lead 12-6.
Minutes later, Tyler Atkins plucked a kick out of the air to score and increase the lead to 16-6.
Immediately, Wauchope hit back with a try to bring the scores to 16-12 midway through the half.
Wingham were able to hold on to register the win.

Under 18s
THE young Under 18s team tried hard, and trailed 8-0 at the break after conceding two tries.
Wauchope scored two more tries in the second half to lead 18-0.
A late try to Sam Bartlett, converted by Nayden Moriaty made the final score 18-6.

League tag
THE newly formed young and inexperienced Tigers Ladies League Tag team was no match for the current premiers, with Wauchope winning 52-0 after leading 22-0 at half time.

The Tigers play at home against the Port City Breakers at the Wingham Sporting Complex this Saturday April 18, with the earlier games starting at 11.10am for League Tag, 12.10pm for Under 18s, and 1.20pm for Reserve Grade. This allows for a special ANZAC Ceremony at 2.40pm before First Grade kick off at 3pm. This is the start of the special ANZAC week commemorations remembering 100 years of sacrifice for our nation's freedom. All current and ex-service persons will be admitted free of charge to the games.
