Up against a young Great Lakes side, they had managed to get three hours of play in the previous Saturday, and were right in the contest dismissing seven of their wickets for 127 runs.
Rhys Kleindeinst was the pick of the Wingham bowlers on that day, and added to his total early when play resumed to bag 5-21 off 11 overs.
Dylan Strathdee finished with two wickets and bowled well, while Robbie Hynes, Blake Sky and Fletcher Lewis each got one to wrap up the Great Lakes innings for 134.
A highlight as well was Joel Kleindeinst taking four wickets behind the stumps as wicket keeper.
Wingham, of course, were confident going in to bat and got off to a good start reaching 30 for no loss but then the wheels fell off.
Great Lakes bowled and fielded well, grabbing the crucial wickets of the openers Strathdee and Hynes from which Wingham never recovered and were bundled out for just 78 runs in total.
Hynes top scored with 26, with Dennis Smith next on 15, but only Strathdee (12) and Jackson Mullen (11) were the other batsmen to reach double figures.
Wingham sent Great Lakes in to bat with two hours of play left, but after an early wicket to Rhys Kleindeinst couldn’t make the breakthrough to claim the unlikely outright, so it was left to part-time trundlers Matt Brislane and Michael Dawson to entertain their team-mates and play was called off early.
Captain Dennis Smith thanked his team for a good performance and season to reach the final recalling that with only one match to play in the season they were languishing in second last place before they snuck in to fourth position and the semi finals where they beat Taree West White and then minor premiers Taree West Blue to make the final.
A grade came third in their comp while A4’s (C graders as they are otherwise known) defended their crown to claim the title.
A good season for the club; Until next year.
