Wingham and Valley Vets single stableford
A GOOD field of 63 players competed for the Wingham and Valley Vets trophy and would you believe, the winner was Daryl Heywood for the first time for a long time. Good onya Daryl.
Daryl shot 38 points to win by two shots.
Terry Thompson was the next best with 37, good enough to win B-grade nett. Other nett winners were Neville Blanch in A-grade with 36 on a countback and Wayne Lewis in C-grade with 34 on a countback.
Runners-up in each grade were Mone Vilayrack (A-grade with 36), Rudi Brinkman (B-grade with 36) and Damien Heywood (C-grade with 34).
Well done gentlemen, especially young Damien as this is his first time on the winner’s stand.
Balls went out to nett 32 on a countback with Earle Braham the final recipient.
Nearest to the pins were hard to win this week as the course is playing quite long at the moment.
Winner of the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th and “shot of the day” went to popular Richard Clark with a great shot (and got the putt as well).
Other sharpshooters were Ashley Armstrong on the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Earle Braham, the 3rd/12th, Neville Blanch the 9th/18th Bent on Food hole and last but not least, the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods was won by the day’s winner Daryl Heywood.
Bet the “missus” was happy Daryl.
Wednesday veterans
FORTY eight veterans had an early start Wednesday playing and Irish fourball.
Scores were pretty close with the winning group of Terry Morris, Courtney Adamson, Cec Pedron and Rex Burrell just scraping home.
Runners-up were Ross Dawson, John Aldous, Dave Homewood and Stephen Seymour.
Third place went to Brian Roberts, Bill Osborne, Geoff Swaffield and Ken Squires.
Kevin Morris won the NTP on the 3rd/12th as did Jim Bradshaw on the 7th/16th.
Both were very close shots.
Wednesday ambrose
THE second last ambrose of the current season resulted in 58 players turning up for a game. Scoring was very hot with several groups with more birdies than pars on their scorecards. “Young Tigers” captained by Nigel Latham set a scorching pace with 29 (7 under par) off the stick for a nett 24 and a half.
They won by a shot and a half from “Browns” (Rod Brown) who shot six under par.
Third spot went to the “Almost All Knights” team captained by a visitor from England, Ella Cattell, out here visiting her newly born grandson Austin.
Other winners on the day were Heather Brown with a great shot to win the NTP on the third hole, Scotty Dwyer won the port again and Antony Urquhart won the club $10 voucher.
As mentioned earlier, today’s event is our last for this season and a sausage sizzle ($2 each) is available to all who turn up.
All we need is some “cooks”.
Thursday LJ Hooker chook run
THIRTY one “chook runners” turned out this past week and some bad news for the handicapper, with the “masseuse” finding some form and winning the day with a well compiled 22 points (he was off a very generous handicap however, not now though).
Craig Harrison, for the uninformed, is the “masseuse” and thoroughly deserved his victory.
Craig won by a shot from Sandy Dunn who beat Neville Blanch on a countback.
Nev Dahl from Taree was fourth with 20 points.
Graham Steel hit a rare good shot to win the NTP on the third as did Richard Clark on the seventh.
As it was the final round for the month, the March LJ Hooker umbrella was finalised with Mark Fotheringham winning again, the third time in the past five months. “Fog” totalled 81 points to beat Neville Blanch by three shots.
In the “handicapper” versus the “masseuse” grudge match, the score now is 6-3 to the handicapper.
Friday ladies
FRIDAY ladies played a single Stableford last week with Kathy Knapp the best on the day. Kathy won from Jan Ditton, Mary Stevens, Sue Baartz, Janice Surtees and Connie Gates.
Sue Baartz also won the NTP and Sue McKenna was the best of the long markers.
Due to an oversight, last week’s winner was Jill Hampton.
Saturday night golf
LAST Saturday a great turnout of thirteen teams played a round of “night golf”, with a lot of fun enjoyed by all.
Scoring apparently, was quite difficult, especially putting, (according to the losers anyway).
No team beat par, with the best “off the stick” the Mark Fotheringham team with even par.
Winners on the night were the Heywood team continuing on with their winning form earlier in the day.
Runner up was the Tony Lowman team with “Nobody’s” (captained by Damien Moore) in third spot.
Overall a lot of fun and another similar night is scheduled later in the year.
Coming events
THIS Saturday is the first of the month so it is Taree Toyota Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical Medals/Kangaroofing Long Drive time again.
A bit of advice to all players, scoring will not be easy with all the grass around, but “hang in there”.
You never know what will win the day. The following weekend, April 11/12, is our open weekend sponsored by “Jax Tyres” and “Glass 24/7”.
Good luck and good golfing to all.
Go the Newcastle Knights.
