Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader Warren Truss confirmed today that a second payment of $1.079 million has been paid to Greater Taree City Council as part of the Coalition's $10 million commitment towards the package of local road and bridge projects.

"A payment of $175,000 was made in January, a further $1.079 million was paid this month and a third instalment of $1.053 million is scheduled for payment in April," Mr Truss said.

"David Gillespie has been a strong advocate in pushing for a greater increase in investment in infrastructure, and together we are delivering.

Federal Member for Lyne David Gillespie said local infrastructure projects were progressing well with the support of Federal funding.

"I have been informed that both the new Dyers Crossing bridge and the Dickenson's bridge on Moto Road are scheduled for completion around October this year. Council is expected to appoint the tenderer for Manning Point Road works this week and those works are expected to be completed by the end of the year weather permitting," Dr Gillespie said.

"The upgrade of Gloucester Road between Boundary Street and Dollys Flat will begin soon, with the remaining sections of Gloucester Road to be assessed by Council following completion of the first stage.

"This investment is important for the Manning Valley and I am delighted that the Australian Government is contributing more than $50 million in Federal funding towards local infrastructure and services throughout this term of council under a range of important programmes including Roads to Recovery, Federal Financial Assistance, Bridges Renewal and Community Development Grants."
