Consistent overnight rain rendered the ground unplayable, as was the case at the other venues hosting second, third and fourth grade grand finals.
Wingham finished the season proper in third position and faced defending premiers United, who claimed second.
Due to showers and drizzle throughout Saturday play was delayed until almost 4pm when Wingham won the toss and sent United into bat.
Ryan Williams gained immediate success when trapping Laurie Weeks in front for one in the third over.
Josh Ferris and Murray McCartney added 40 in seven overs, including taking 11 and 15 off consecutive Steve Allwood overs.
But 'Harmy' had his revenge by having Ferris well caught by debutant Tim Watson in his next over, Ferris making 27 with five fours.
Mick Stinson replaced Williams after his 7 overs returned 1 for 25 and he promptly removed McCartney with his 4th ball, caught by Ryan Morris for 23. McCartney managed 3 boundaries and was dismissed with the score at 67.
United skipper Ricky Campbell looked in good touch and added a further 23 with Matt Kennewell. By now spin had been introduced and they showed Brad Staff and Matt Essery due respect in picking up the singles. But a change of bowling by staff, who had 0/8 off 8, proved rewarding when Watson was brought into the attack and picked up Campbell with his first ball in first grade, caught at slip by Essery for 29.
Shortly afterwards rain halted play just prior to scheduled stumps with United 4/92 from 32.2 overs. Kennewell remained unbeaten on six and Will Donovan two. The wicket takers for Wingham were Williams 1/25, Allwood 1/39, Stinson 1/12 and Watson 1/1.
United will meet Old Bar in the decider at Johnny Martin Oval this weekend whilst the Wingham players are free to support the second and fourth graders. Second grade, the defending premiers, are in a good position against Great Lakes having them 7/127. Rhys Kleindeinst starred with four wickets. Fourth grade, or A4 as they prefer to be called, will also be defending their title at the rec grounds.
