The project will be an Anzac Centenary writing competition, open to all residents of Greater Taree, the young, and the not so young.
Prizes will be awarded for winning entries in various categories and age groups.
Selected entries will be published in a commemorative book to be published in 2016.
Entries must specifically address the themes of the project; "What Anzac means to me - memories of the past; visions for the future."
Entrants will be invited to submit poetry, short stories and short anecdotes in accordance with the project guidelines.
It is intended that the published book will be a reflection of the voices and thoughts of people of all ages who were residing in the Manning Valley in the Centenary Year of Anzac - 100 years after the landing at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.
While the 2015 Centenary of Anzac highlights the Anzac campaign in Gallipoli, the Centenary Year also commemorates and honours all those who have served in Australia`s defence and peace keeping services at any time in Australia`s history.
"This is a unique opportunity for everyone to get involved, share their memories and hopes for the future, and have their thoughts and stories recorded for posterity," said president Ron Irwin.
Planning is underway for a series of writing workshops to be held in schools and at public forums during July and August this year.
Details of the workshop venues and times will be announced in the near future.
They will be conducted by noted literary consultant, Ms Jacqui Winn. She will guide participants to fine tune their writing skills and encourage them with their competition entries.
Information about where to find copies of the guidelines and entry forms will be publicised by the end of April.
Closing date for entries is October 2.
"While this date may seem a long way off, we urge people to start thinking and talking about their entries," said committee chair and project manager, Mave Richardson.
"Writing something special can take quite a lot of thought and time, so we hope everyone will start their writing journey now."
