For over a century the hall at Killabakh has been the focal point of community activities, and throughout that time an evolving band of volunteers has worked to firstly build and then improve and maintain this asset.
But gone are the days, due primarily to strict occupational health and safety policies, when volunteers can swing off ladders and do the painting themselves. In recognition of this, funding is sometimes made available for such projects.
The community has been seeking this now for some time through various agencies. Needless to say, they were greatly relieved to hear earlier this year that their application had been successful.
Painting is expected to commence towards the end of March. All external surfaces and the interior's ceiling will receive a facelift and some weathered timber will be replaced.
Work should be completed before the Killabakh Bumper Book Fair and Car Boot Sale on Sunday May 3. If you'd like to book a space for your car and your goodies on the grounds surrounding the Hall, contact Sky Deacon on 0438 292055. Bookings $10.
We will gratefully accept donations of books, CDs and DVDs. The fundraising Book Fair will be inside the hall and the kitchen will be open for morning tea and lunch.
