What will be done with the completed poppies will be kept as a surprise, to be unveiled at the at the Anzac Day dawn service at the Wingham Town Hall.
The idea evolved from the installation of 800,000 ceramic poppies in the moat of the Tower of London in 2014 as a visual commemoration of the First World War centenary.
Lyn Turner, Women's Auxiliary president, and Karen Bowen, treasurer, said that each poppy will be a "representation of our guys who fought and died in the First World War, and their families."
Out of the final tally of poppies, 278 will represent the men of Wingham who fought in the war. At that time, that number equated to 10 percent of Wingham's population.
The display will be kept and used for the duration of the centenary of the Great War, up until the commemoration of 100 years since Armistice Day.
Kits can be bought from Fig Tree Fabrics in Isabella St for approximately $10, and will include everything you need, including yarn, buttons, fabric and patterns.
For further information contact Lyn Turner on 6552 3809 or Karen Bowen on 6553 5587.
