The business enjoys a loyal customer base and proudly remains an independent practice.
"I don't sell glasses, I look after eyes," optometrist Dennis Smith points out.
The thriving practice was started by Heather and David Wilson in 1990 with current owner Dennis coming on board a few years later.
Heather has been enjoying retirement since 2012 and David is in 'semi-retirement' working as a part time dispenser a few days a week.
The current team enjoy being in Wingham and are grateful for the opportunity to provide old fashioned service.
Wingham is a patriotic town, suggests David who was initially surprised with the speed with which the business grew in the early days.
Word of mouth has always served the practice well with happy patients more than willing to tell their friends.
While Wingham Eyecare’s clientele are largely based in Wingham and surrounding areas, it is not uncommon for patients to travel from as far as Gloucester, Forster and Harrington to experience the small town service offered by the team.
David considers much of the loyalty shown by patients is largely due to the good service given by staff and the level of consideration shown by Dennis.
But Dennis simply deflects any recognition for himself and is quick to thank the people of Wingham.
"They're great!" he said proudly.
