Cricket report
THE weather was fine enough for last Saturdays’ games to go ahead and our local team played Forster.
Sad to say our boys had been out in the rain too much and had become slightly rusty I’m afraid and as a result they lost.
I think we’ll have to take up a collection to purchase a drum of oil and a spray bottle for such emergencies or some kill-rust paint and give them a good spray after each rainy period.
Which do you think would be more effective?
They only went down 80 runs to 105 which is not total annihilation, I know, and worse scores have been recorded much higher up the cricket ladder in the world so maybe just the oil?
Wickets were taken by A Urquhart who captured 3, D Selmes who captured two and M King, J Chapman, I Solomon and N Myones who each took one.
B Solomon, A Urquhart, D Selmes and N Myones each took catches when fielding.
My reporter didn’t give me the name of the highest run scorer so I guess that is the area they fell down in.
I hope for good weather and better luck for the team next game.
School of Arts news
THE painters have finished the front of the hall and the long wall on the supper room and it looks good from the street. Here’s hoping you all remember the next market day at the hall on Saturday, March 21 as it is to be followed by a Harmony Day luncheon.
It is also hoped the new look hall is completed by then and can be christened with a great day’s activities.
Everyone knows what market day is but for those who are thinking “what the devil is Harmony Day?” I’ll remind you.
The idea behind the day is for the community to come together and enjoy each others’ company at a luncheon which helps you get to know members of the community whom you may not usually meet because of work commitments and/or distance, etc.
It is also a day when we can meet people from different cultural backgrounds if we are lucky enough to have any living in the area thus beginning to understand their backgrounds and customs a little better.
Each family or single person who attends is asked to bring along a plate of food to share at the luncheon (as people do at a street party).
You can bring an old family favourite or if you are from another culture perhaps you could introduce the locals to a food from your homeland which would be wonderful.
Don’t worry if you’ve had to go shopping or work that morning and don’t have time to cook as there is always a barbecue on market day and you can just buy something to eat on the day.
If you wish to you are most welcome to bring along your own beverages or I’m sure you’ll be able to buy a can of soft drink or cup of tea or coffee there so make a concerted effort to join in with the rest of the community in a “harmonious” luncheon, meet your old friends and maybe make a few new ones as well.

Red Cross news
ALL club members and any other interested community members are invited to come along to our first meeting for the year on Tuesday, March 24.
It is being held at Joyce Moore’s home at 1/1 McPherson Street, Wingham and kicks off at 10.30 am.
The meeting will be followed by a morning tea.
There will be a lucky door prize, a raffle which will be a fund raiser for Red Cross Calling and anyone who wishes to is quite welcome to stay and enjoy a light luncheon with Joyce I’ve been told.
As per usual the members are requested to bring along something to share for the morning tea and/or luncheon.
Mount George Heritage Village Community update
ON Saturday, April 18 the committee has planned to hold a fund-raising dance in the local hall.
All monies raised will be put towards the Centenary of ANZAC Celebration later in the year.
Please keep this date free in your diary so it is a successful night which helps swell the coffers for the big day when we all think back and remember just how much the Anzacs and all other military services have done for us.
More news as the night approaches.
Birthday wishes for the week
THIS week the only locals celebrating a birthday are Wylie Bush from Caffreys Flat and Seth Huett.
Have very happy birthdays both of you. You are both young enough to have a long life ahead of you during which you can celebrate so many more happy birthdays.
Wylie is becoming quite a grown-up young lady now but Seth is still at the stage where birthdays are just another day of great fun, lots of presents and yummy food.
Two well-known ex-Mount Georgians also celebrate birthdays this week, too.
I’m sure you all remember Glen (Slippery) Turner and Alistair Robinson who have left our little part of the world.
Just because they have moved away doesn’t mean they have moved far enough not to be wished very happy birthdays, also.
Have wonderful birthdays, guys.
I’m sure all who have known you in the past from this area wish you well this year again.
