This was a very prestigious win and another feather in young Reid’s hat.
Reid shot a four over par round on the very difficult Bonville layout.
Onto other golf news and last Saturday 70 golfers including visitors from Royal Canberra, Forster-Tuncurry and Taree, played a Stableford for the Wingham Beef Exports trophy.
Wingham Beef Exports Stableford
WITH a fine round of 42 points, Steve Hatchwell blitzed the rest of the field by a mammoth three shots to win the event. Congratulations Steve, it has been a while since your last win. Other grade winners included Rod Brown in A-grade with 39 points, Damien Moore B-grade with 38 on a countback, and James King C-grade with 38 hard earned points.
Runners-up in each grade were Greg Foy (A-grade 36 on a countback), Denis McKeough (B-grade 38 points) and Garry Masters (C-grade with 34 on a countback).
The “green stuff” on the fairways resulted in the course playing long so the course was the victor on the day.
This explains why the last ball went out to Larry Thompson with a modest 33 points (there were actually six players on 33 points who won balls).
My apologies this week with no NTP’s but someone forgot to give the NTP markers to the greenkeeper.
Wednesday veterans
THE vets have been out in force lately and this week was no exception.
Fifty five played an American Foursomes last Wednesday with some great scores recorded.
Winners on the day were Phil Hanlen and John Strybis by half a shot from Robert Allan and Darryl March who in turn just beat Terry Morris and Courtney Adamson on a countback with scores equal.
The sharpshooters on the day were Garry Masters on the 3rd/12th and Rex White did likewise on the 7th/16th.
Wednesday ambrose
WITH daylight saving finishing up in a few weeks, time is running out for teams to get in the “winner’s circle”.
“Manning Smash Repairs” (captained by Mitch Saxby) need not worry however, after their fine seven under par round last week. They won by over a shot from “Browns plus one” (Heather Brown) who also shot a fine six under par round, just edging out “Operators” (Tim Smith) by less than a shot.
NTP was won by Rod Brown on the third hole, the port went to Peter Bell and Dave Irvine won the $10 club voucher.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
THE threat of rain Thursday turned off a number of players, but most who played got in okay.
Of those, three had 21 points with secretary-manager Mark Fotheringham the winner from an unlucky Terry Woods with an even unluckier Graham Steel third.
There must be a gremlin in the works this week as the NTP’s from Thursday also went missing for a while but alas they were eventually found and the winners were Rex White on the seventh hole, and Terry Wood on the third.
As this was the last Thursday of the month, the February LJ Hooker umbrella was decided with James Urquhart winning his first “major”, taking home the umbrella with 77 points, six in front of runner-up Rex White.
Well done James.
Friday ladies
THE Friday ladies continue to have a good turnout and this week past is no exception.
Chris Cavanagh was this week’s winner from Pat Whiteley, Ruth Woodward, Kae Lane, Robyn Dudgeon, Narelle Smith, Joy White, and Janice Surtees the final winner on a countback.
Robyn Dudgeon also won the NTP and Marcia Fowler continues to improve, winning the long marker section.
Coming events
“MIRACLE of miracles”, all the games that had to be played by February 28 in the “Specsavers” Handicap Matchplay were played and the players to continue have been determined.
Well done to all concerned.
Now all we have to do is play the eight games by March 21.
Good luck everyone left in the field.
Next Saturday is the first of the month, so the event is of course the March Taree Motorama Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical Medals/ Kangaroofing Long Drive.
In Pennant news, Wingham division one had a great five to one win over the very strong Wauchope side at Camden Haven.
The division three team played the Forster-Tuncurry team at Tallwoods and finished with a three all draw, a fine result.
At the time of writing the division four result was unknown.
Good luck and good golfing.
