Seniors Week will be celebrated from Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, March 22 right across the state and there are lots of events that people can get involved in right here in the Manning Valley.
With so many events on offer, there is something new for everyone to try - with events covering sport, art, technology, entertainment, health, wellbeing, family history and much more.
To find out what's happening, check out the program of events, which can found in local aged care facilities and chemists or download a copy from council's website - www.taree.cc/seniors.
The library, along with council's community team are hosting a number of free events, including a technology workshop on Monday, March 16. Presenters will cover topics including computer basics, social networking, internet banking, Centrelink and Medicare online services and online health monitoring services.
Seniors Week project officer, Chris Dimarco said "Depending on someone's skill level and experience with computers, people can book in for a particular topic that interests them, or they can come along for the whole day. We will also be providing lunch and refreshments.
"Other events we are hosting include family history workshop, Grandparent's Storytime, Young at Heart Film Festival and our annual jazz event on March 21 at Taree Library - Music by the Book. For dates and times of all these events take a look at the program on our website", said Chris.
Seniors Week is also an opportunity to give recognition to some of those special seniors who go above and beyond through giving back to the community.
Individuals and organisations are invited to nominate a Manning Valley senior who has made a significant contribution to our community through the volunteer work they do. Community members are encouraged to download a nominations form from the Council website, fill it in and return by March 13.
"The Certificates of Appreciation are an opportunity to formally recognise a senior's contribution and say thank you for all their hard work. All nominees will receive a certificate, which will be presented by the Mayor at our Music by the Book event being held on Saturday, March 21, 3pm - 5:30pm at Taree Library", said Chris.
If you would like to book into any of these events or you would like more information, please contact council on (02) 6592 5399 or email community@gtcc.nsw.gov.au.
