The workshop is being organised by Regional Development Australia - Mid North Coast in conjunction with Manning Valley Business Chamber and leading industry organisations Food Futures, Catalyst and Hargraves Institute. It will be held at the North Coast Institute of TAFE in Taree, between 9am and3pm.
This follows feedback from a number of local producers that they need help to increase capacity within their businesses.
The program will provide valuable networking and collaboration opportunities and will help producers to value add their produce from paddock to plate and to identify funding opportunities and potential industry clusters.
The ultimate goal of these workshops is to set the agenda for the industry's future growth. Focusing on areas of competitive strength will help the region transition into smart, value adding industry.
The main program runs from 9am-12pm, with networking and lunch provided from 12pm-1pm. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion led by Regional Development Australia, from 1pm-3pm, with producers who are eager to look at opportunities in value adding, industry clusters, and establishing processing and packaging facilities.
"This is an opportunity for producers to go to the next level in the production chain with other like-minded organisations and for RDA to support that process," said Lorraine Gordon, CEO of RDA Mid North Coast. "Regional Development is working diligently in the agricultural space to empower producers and enhance food production within the region and these discussions are just the beginning."
Steve Attkins from Manning Valley Business Chamber, who are co-organising this event, said, "It is a great opportunity to look at how to grow your regional food business. It's a discussion that needs to be had. We're a great food area."
