As predicted it was Mick Stinson who got Wingham over the line.
Resuming on 14 not out, with Tye Brislane on 1, it took the pair 10 overs to pass the century with a couple of balls falling close to fielders.
Brislane showed good technique and temperament given the situation.
He fell for six after striking the winning runs, bowled off his foot by Tom Burley, five runs in front.
Mitch Niven failed to score after he skied a pull shot to square leg off Brock Stewart.
Steve Allwood struck a nice boundary in his seven, outscoring Stinson in their 13 run partnership, before becoming Burley’s fifth wicket of the innings.
Josh Essery was the last man dismissed, well caught by keeper Burton, for three off Stewart. Stinson remained 42 not out in playing yet another valuable knock for his team.
Burley was the pick of the United trundlers being rewarded with 5/26 (13) and it was a surprise he did not resume bowling first up, Ricky Campbell favoring Dean Mills and Jackson Witts. Witts returned 2/31 (18) and Stewart 3/26 (11).
It was expected that United would chase runs and set Wingham a run chase but that failed to eventuate.
Rather, they chose to bat the remainder of the afternoon in search of batting bonus points.
Laurie Weeks (5) hit a full toss straight to mid wicket off Josh Essery before Josh Ferris and Murray McCartney added 62 for the second.
McCartney was the first of Matt Essery’s three victims for the afternoon, plumb in front with 16 to his name.
Campbell survived a missed stumping off Brad Staff before being caught by the same man off Essery for 26.
Ferris fell five runs later, caught in the deep by Niven off Essery for 83 when the score was 136.
Ferris had earlier been put down by Essery from a sharp return catch, as was the case in the first innings.
Ferris hit eight boundaries.
The match ended by consent after United reached 4/163.
Matt Essery finished with 3/58 (16) and son Josh 1/13.
The win allows Wingham to hold on to third spot.
Wingham will now play Old Bar, who returned to the competition lead after a last over outright win over Taree West, at Old Bar on the weekend.
