What a week rain wise.
This is Monday morning and the smell of that Sunday night storm is still in the air.
What beautiful rain, the area certainly needed it.
Saturday “Specsavers” single Stableford
ONTO the golf and Saturday’s single Stableford sponsored by Specsavers was also the qualifying round for the club handicap match play event.
One player who definitely qualified was A-grader Rohan Abbott who won the day with a fine 40 points (one over par) round. Well played Rohan. Grade winners included Greg Foy (A-grade with 37 points) on a countback, Ben Heywood (B-grade with 38 points) also on a countback, and John Turner C-grade, with 37 points.
Runners-up were Syd Gilfillan in A-grade with 37, Damian Moore B-grade with 38 and Garry masters C-grade with 36 on a countback.
Katrina Greenaway won the ladies with 37.
Balls went out to 35, James Urquhart the last recipient.
In the nearest to the pins, “Shot of the day” went to Rod Brown, almost “holing out” on the Bent on Food 9th/18th.
Others included Rohan Abbott who won the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Darrin Lewis, the 3rd/12th, Syd Gilfillan the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th and finally, John Broadbent the “Bayview Seafoods” 7th/16th prize.
Wednesday Veterans
THE rain started about Tuesday right through the week so Wednesday Veterans were very few in number, so few that the event was called off.
Wednesday Ambrose
SEVENTEEN keen ambrose players managed a game in between showers with “Where’s Wally” captained winning for the third week in a row.
This week however they played with the handicapper so the remaining three members “threw out the anchor”, returning a modest five under par score.
This however was good enough to beat “Manning Smash Repairs” by a quarter of a shot.
Let’s see what eventuates this week.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
A GOOD field of thirty two players enjoyed fine conditions Thursday with George Legge returning his best score for a while, 25 points, to win the day. “Goodonya” George and welcome to your new reduced handicap.
Dave Andrews also played well, his 22 points good enough for second spot.
Next came club captain Nev Blanch on 21 points, Earle Braham fourth with 19 points and finally John Halpin, also with 19 points, in fifth spot. Nearest to the pins went to Garry Stackman with a good shot on the third and Mark Fotheringham on the seventh hole.
The LJ Hooker January umbrella went to Craig Harrison with 91 points, just pipping George Legge on 90.
Coming events
THIS Saturday is the first of the month so the February Taree Motorama Monthly Mug, MRD Electrical Medals and Kangaroofing Long Drives are on in earnest.
“Tubby’s balls“ are also up for grabs, so a big day is expected.
One last mention must go to the 2014 “Snake Club” winner, announced at a big dinner Saturday, Gary Croucher.
I assume it is congratulations Gary.
Good luck and good golfing.
