Storytime is a popular program which focus on the development of early literacy skills. Debbie Horgan, community outreach librarian, believes Storytime provides a great platform to not only introduce young minds to the joy of reading but are also great opportunities to meet other families and make friends.
The program uses a combination of books, rhymes, musical instruments and movement to engage children. It also features a craft activity, and children can take home their completed work of art.
Preschool Storytime is held Mondays at Wingham Library from 11am to 11:45am. Everyone is welcome to attend and parents and carers are encouraged to participate in the activities presented.
“Children’s programs at the library focus on providing positive literacy experiences for young children and their carers,” said Debbie.
“These experiences are important for the development of children’s literacy skills and they are fun! It’s wonderful to see the delight in the faces of children as they listen to a story at Storytime, and then to have the chance to talk about it with them while they are doing a craft activity – to share their joy.”
