No fear of fire on soggy Oz day
STRAIGHT after I finish writing this column I’m taking the family to Ellenborough falls to have a sausage sandwich and a chat with out fearless and fabulous bush fire brigade members. There’s a certain irony involved when the fire brigade’s fundraising Australia Day sausage sizzle is hosted in such wet conditions, but at least they can be sure they won’t be called out to a blaze. May I take this opportunity to praise their dedication and hard work, and to remind all rural readers that donations to your local bush fire brigade are always welcome and very well-earned. I hope that they get home in time to listen to Triple J’s hottest one hundred, which may or may not include a certain song by Taylor Swift.

School resumes for the year
EXHAUSTED parents who have spent the past six weeks chauffeuring children to sleep overs, movies and swims are breathing a collective sigh of relief as book packs are bought and schoolbags are re-packed for yet another year of learning. Here on the Bulga we have a couple of students up for the HSC this year, and there are a few new enrolments at Elands Public. Welcome to the new children, and best of luck to those facing the HSC.
Jai returns from Germany
LOCAL lad Jai Harrison has returned from a very exciting trip to Germany over the holidays, when he caught up with his grandparents who were all too happy to cram a year of spoiling into six weeks. Jai travelled with his Mum Connie and her partner, and reportedly had a wonderful time. He was, however, very happy to return to his girlfriend Grace, and the musical pair wasted no time getting back into the swing of things, performing two gigs on Australia Day as their popular duo “Sweet Nothin”. The busy pair performed at the Manning Entertainment Centre for Australia Day celebrations and then moved on to the Top pub in Wingham to entertain punters in the afternoon. Welcome back Jai. We look forward to hearing tales of your travels soon.
Rhonda and Made’s trip delayed
HERE in Elands we were all looking forward to catching up with ex-Elander Rhonda Jones, who had planned to visit from abroad this week with her Balinese husband Made. Unfortunately Made has fallen ill and so the Bulga reunion will have to wait until he’s fit to travel. This news must have been particularly frustrating for host Jane Watson who has cleaned her house to within an inch of it’s life. We may have to devise a roster of local visitors so that Jane’s magnificent housekeeping may be truly appreciated and admired.
