Ron Hindmarsh, Rotary Club of Wingham president, approached Greater Taree City Council about the old rotted pergola that was in dire need of replacing.
Council were only too happy to help out by demolishing the old structure, readying the ground for the new structure, and providing the materials.
"All we had to do was buy the paint", said Ron.
But buying the paint was not all the Rotary volunteers did. Under the guidance of Project Manager Dave Sullings, the wood was taken to the Wingham Men's Shed to be measured, cut and pre-painted.
The pieces were then transported to the park and put together on site. A final lick of paint and Rotary's job is done. Council will then repave the site.
The pergola marks Rotary's first big project for the year.
An upcoming Rotary event currently being planned is a Sunday breakfast at Wingham Golf Club for International Women's Day.
Rotary has engaged Antarctic station leader Narelle Campbell as their guest speaker for the breakfast, and it promises to be a highly interesting and inspiring talk.
Narelle was the station leader at Mawson Station in 2008, Casey in 2010, Macquarie Island in 2012 and Davis Station in 2014, and is nominated for the 2015 NSW Australian of the Year.
