Federal Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie last week announced another round of Federal Government grants to support four local projects that commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australians during WW1.
A grant of $5,371 was approved for the school plaque project.
“The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program enables communities to support the centenary by implementing projects that acknowledge and preserve the experiences of local servicemen and women during World War 1,” Dr Gillespie said.
“I welcome the recognition from the minister for Veterans’ Affairs and minister assisting the prime minister for the Centenary of ANZAC, senator Michael Ronaldson, of our electorate’s efforts in recognising those that have served our nation nearly 100 years ago.”
Under the latest round of grants, as well as the memorial plaques in schools a number of other projects will receive funding these include:
o Old Bar Soldiers Memorial Hall Inc will receive $3,863 to construct a plinth to the existing War Memorial and create a memorial garden.
o Kendall RSL Sub-Branch will receive $3,756 for a commemorative plaque and exhibition at Kendall
o Port Macquarie Historical Society Inc will receive $2,965 to present a WW1 exhibition at the Port Macquarie Historical Museum
In total, seventeen applications were submitted from the Lyne electorate, and further advice on the outcome for the remaining grant applications from Gloucester, Laurieton, Kendall and Wauchope is anticipated over the coming weeks, said Dr Gillespie.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank the members of the Lyne ANZAC Electorate Committee who assisted in developing projects for commemorating the Anzac Centenary in our region; their work and counsel has made these activities, through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program, a reality,” he said.
