The Northern NSW Razorbacks team is selected from the combined North Coastal and Central North regions, and takes in an area from the Queensland border south to Newcastle, and west, so being selected for the team is a major achievement.
Hayden, a 12 year-old student at Wingham Public School, has been playing cricket since he was nine. He is an opening batsman who has scored over 950 runs this calendar year in all forms of cricket.
Hayden is also a developing leg spin bowler and has taken 33 wickets this year.
Hayden's other achievements this year include playing for the Manning under 14s premiership-winning representative side that defeated Macleay Valley on Sunday December 7, as well as playing for Mid North Coast in under 13s and being selected in the Mid North Coast under 14s side, as a 12 year old, to make several tours across the State.
Hayden was also the leading run-scorer at the PSSA State Championships in April, playing for Hunter, from where he was selected in the NSW training squad to go to St Gregory's College at Campbeltown where he received coaching from ex-Australian players.
Hayden's achievements at higher levels do not take away from his love of playing cricket for Wingham U14s with his mates each Saturday morning.
The State Challenge Carnival in January pits all of the State's best players together in eight metropolitan and regional sides competing against each other.
It will be a tough five days of cricket and Hayden is looking forward to the challenge.
