Welcome to this week's Wingham Golf Club report and reporting the weather is better and with the addition of the fertiliser generously donated by two of our member, Peter Tait and Dave Andrews, the course should respond very positively over the next few weeks.

Onto the golf and members this past week played for the December Taree Motorama Monthly Mug, MRD Electrical Medals, Kangaroofing Long Drives and of course Tubby's balls were up for grabs again.
Saturday competition
A relatively small field turned out for the December Taree Motorama Monthly Mug, but despite that scores were pretty good. Best of the day went to young A grade champ Reid Brown with a 73/69, beating "the old man" Rod Brown on a count back. Rod however did win the A grade net. Reid also won the A grade MRD Electrical medal as did B and C grade net winners Syd Gilfillan (83/70) and Jason Griffis (95/70).
Scratch winners were Mitch Steel in A grade with a rusty 77, Richard Clark B grade with 88 and Garry Masters won C grade with 94. There were two eagles, on an e by Reid Brown on the 17th and the other an eagle two to Rod Desborough on the difficult 18th par four. Balls went out to net 74, Rod Desborough again, the final winner.
The Kangaroofing Long Drive winners were Glenn Thorburn in A grade, Richard Clark B grade and James King in C grade. Despite a bad day from the tee, Earle Braham showed plenty of "ticker" to only need 27 putts for the 18 holes, so claiming Tubby's balls.
Nearest to the pins were very close for such difficult pins, the best and "shot of the day" to Rod Desborough of course with his eagle two on the 9th/18th Bent on Food hole. Terry Grant also hit one very close in winning the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th hole as was Dave Andrews on the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th. MRs Brown's boys, Reid and Rod then won the 4th/13th All About Conveyancing and the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th holes respectively.
Wednesday veterans
FIFTY five players competed for the Medals of Medals event, again scoring was excellent. Robert Allan was the final winner with net 65 in a narrow finish, with Bruce Armstrong (net 66 on a count back) second and Albert Kenmare third. Barry Neave struggled with the conditions and length of the course, but still managed a win in the NTP on the 3rd/12th with a great shot to less than a metre. Bill Millward did likewise to win the 7th/16th hole. OBE winner on the day was former North Sydney "Bear," Barry Casey.
Wednesday Ambrose
FORTY six players enjoyed fine conditions Wednesday with scoring for the minor places very close. The winners however, a rare twosome, Steve Welch and Ashley Crane of the "Checkered Bobcat" team, managed two under par (with a very generous handicap) to record a comfortable win. Tim Smith's "Operators" team was second a couple of shots back with "Family Ties" (Brian Hanney) third. Rod Saxby won the NTP on the third hole, Alan Schubert won the club voucher and Dave Irvine won the port.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
IT is very difficult to report on the winner of the chook run this week, as it was won by secretary-manager Mark Fog with the ridiculous score of two under par for 27 points. He even had the "cheek" to say "don't handicap me" for the big "skins" match next week. Alas however, no chance, we got him. Great round "fogy."
Of the mere mortals, Graeme Lewis was second on a count back from Ian Herd, both with 22 points. About five players on 21 points, got "nuffin." Craig Harrison hit a good one to win the NTP on the third and Rod Brown won his usual NTP on the seventh.
Coming events
THIS Saturday is a single stableford for the Wingham Cellars trophy and Sunday at 10am is the Annual General Meeting.
Also, with Christmas not far away, members and friends are most welcome at the Friday night raffles with many a ham to be won.
Last, on a sad note, I would personally like to thank all the well wishers regarding my mother Lorraine Simpson's condition, after her collapse from a massive stroke last week.
Good luck and good golfing.
