It’s too darn hot!
THE scorching temperatures have sent Elanders flocking to local creeks and waterholes, pausing only to whip down to the shop to grab an ice-cream or cold beer. The oppressive heat on Sunday saw gathering clouds that resulted in a thimble full of rain and a dry lightning strike in the Ellenborough Falls gorge which started a fire.

The location of the blaze was inaccessible to road fire crews and was water bombed by helicopter.
As I write, the fire is still burning but there are hopes it will burn itself out, and in the meantime, we’re counting on promised storms to help us out.
Baby shower brings smiles
AT least we’re having showers of a sort in Elands.
Last Saturday there was secret women’s business afoot when the gals converged on the Elands Shop to surprise Bree Worrall with a baby shower.
Bree was genuinely surprised when a gaggle of girls sprang the shower on her, and a very relaxing and happy afternoon was spent showering her with gifts, eating delicious food and lounging under the newly installed shade sails at the back of the shop.
The blokes, including Dad-to-be Stevie Ryan, stuck to the front verandah with only a measly fan (and a few coldies) to cool them down.
The lovely Bree is pictured with her gorgeous round baby bump being decorated with face (in this case, belly) paint by the women and children at the party.
The newest little Elander is due to make an appearance on Australia Day next year.
School play a great success
WINGHAM High School’s production of “Cinderella” was by all accounts fantastic, with audiences fulsome in their praise for the cast and crew.
The Bulga was well represented in the line-up, proving that mountain air really is beneficial for those creative juices.
Leading lady Hayley Watt did us all proud and many thanks to director Taylah who stepped in as an understudy at short notice early in the run.
The play was written by the very talented Grace Callaghan (who is an honorary Elander) and Jai Harrison did a superb job on guitar and vocals, with Bella Mullany stage managing backstage.
Well done one and all.
The reviews were excellent!
Neisha checks out council
BULGA teenager Neisha Lowe has been learning about the ins and outs of the GTCC with a stint of work experience there.
We hope you had an enjoyable and instructive time Neisha, and it’s always good to have an Elands influence in the corridors of power.
Chivalry is not dead!
INDEED Chivalry is very much alive and actually in it’s teens.
Many, many thanks to young local Tim Seaton who gallantly changed my flat tyre last week when I was on my way to work.
It’s a messy, hot job on a dirt road and I was very grateful for his cheerful assistance, enabling me to get to work on time.
Thanks also to Michaela who was Tim’s chauffeur that day and spotted me attempting to wrangle a jack by the side of the road.
What a great community!
