HEADS were turned and smiles lighted faces in the main street of Wingham on Thursday November 6 as a clown on a unicycle made his way up and down Isabella Street.

Lismore’s Grilym Summers was in town to support Gloucester’s Knitting Nannas Against Gas and at the same time spread his message in a unique and fun way.
Two years ago Grilym was on a bus trip with Lismore’s Knitting Nannas, who challenged the boys to come up with something similar to bring attention to the issue of coal seam gas.
As Grilym had already done a bit of clowning, he thought Clowns Against Gas would be the natural answer to the challenge.
And Grilym says it is always evolving.
“It’s fantastic to walk down the street and they smile at you,” Grilym said. “Then you know their heart is more open.
“I’ve talked for half an hour or more to people who are pro coal seam gas and they tell me they really like what I’m doing!”
While the way the message is delivered is fun, there is no doubt about how seriously Grilym takes his mission to educate people on the potential dangers of fracking and coal seam gas.
The passion and emotion are evident in his voice as he speaks.
The people he came in contact with on the street seemed mostly charmed with the spectacle and conversation, too!
