The awards were presented by NRMA deputy president and former Manning Valley resident Wendy Machin.
Judith was one of six winners in the awards which are conducted each year by the Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead.
The other winners and their categories are:
Caitlin McLeod from Taree – 2014 Myall Lakes Young Person of the Year
Ray Long from Tuncurry - 2014 Myall Lakes Senior Person of the Year
Todd Riches from Forster - 2014 Myall Lakes Junior Sports Person of the Year
Kaspar Fiebig from Forster - 2014 Myall Lakes Sports Person of the Year
Great Lakes Hospice - 2014 Myall Lakes Community Group of the Year
Judith Cluss from Tinonee – 2014 Myall Lakes Citizen of the Year
A NSW Premier’s Award was presented by Stephen Bromhead to Curtis Landers who suffered devastating neck and spine injuries in a junior rugby league match in May.
The citation of Curtis’ award reads – “in recognition of your outstanding spirit, determination and positive attitude towards rehabilitation from severe injury.”
In addition, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to 2RE’s Anthony Zanos; local cattle auctioneer Bruce Moy; and the Taree PCYC Gymaroos for their services to the Myall Lakes community at the 2014 Father’s Day Prostate Cancer Awareness Day at which more than $8,500 was raised for support groups in Forster and Taree.
Mr Bromhead said he was delighted by the large number of nominations in each of the award categories which made the job of the judges very difficult.
“You can tell by the reaction to the announcement of the finalists and their list of achievements just how much the audience appreciates the effort each of the nominees has put in to their endeavours,” Mr Bromhead said.
“It is pleasing to see just how widespread is the involvement of individuals and community groups across our region.
“The dedication of the winners and finalists often goes unrecognised, but these awards are designed to address and celebrate their industry and determination.”
The Myall Lakes Community Awards recognise the achievements of individuals and groups in the Myall Lakes and were first awarded in 2012 at the inception of Stephen Bromhead.
An independent panel of judges selects the finalists and winners in each category, whose identities are not shown to Mr Bromhead before he announced the names of the winners.
