Their posters (an example is pictured) have been stuck up around town to encourage the community to get involved.
That ubiquitous backyard workhorse, the wheelbarrow, will be given a creative makeover for a parade at the next markets on the Saturday of the long weekend.
Everyone is invited to decorate their wheelbarrow and bring it along to be part of the parade, which will be on at the Wingham Showground with the markets at 10.30 am.
Local artist and Rotary member Rod Hindmarsh will judge the wheelbarrows and prizes will be given for three categories.
There will be awards for the wheelbarrow with the best 'living' decorations, for the 'most creative' wheelbarrow, and a 'children under 12' category.
As well as the parade, children can take part in a colouring competition. The colouring-in sheet is on the website www.winghamfarmersmarket.org.au or from the Wingham Chronicle office.
Children can bring theirs to the community stall on the day for a surprise gift.
Local teacher and Farmers' Market committee member Mary Wastell said "the students had a great time designing the posters, and I hope that with the school holidays on they have time to come up with some really wonderfully decorated wheelbarrows!
It was fantastic to get their help with promoting local food and community."
