On the afternoon of Friday, September 5, and following the high winds that week, Greater Taree City Council issued an emergency order to deconstruct the Wingham Stables.
This order followed the inspection of the stables that was undertaken on September 4 where it was noted:
- A piece of roof sheeting had blown off,
- Several other roof sheets have become partially detached,
- One of the rafters have broken in two pieces, and
- A number of the roof battens were breaking.
The emergency order required action to be taken within seven days, weather-permitting.
“Community safety is our number one priority in this instance,” stated Ron Posselt, council's acting general manager.
