They stayed a stone's throw from Darling Harbour and went everywhere from Taronga Zoo to the awesome Imax theatre, combining educational and entertaining excursions around central Sydney.
It's somewhat of a tradition for the youngsters from the Bulga, and for some it's their first big trip away from home without Mum or Dad. As usual they behaved impeccably and did us all proud.
While they were away, the younger pupils ventured out to local businesses in Elands, visiting Nature's Gold Honey and the Elands Community Store to find out what made them tick.
Alex surprises Quilla on her birthday
OUR man and woman in Barcelona, Alex Lewers and Quilla Watt, spent their first evening there in style when Alex dreamed up a wonderful birthday present for Quilla.
They'd been hard at work in an olive grove prior to arriving in Barcelona, so Alex arranged for a superbly relaxing introduction to the City of Gaudi in the form of a gourmet Tapas tour.
The lucky lovebirds visited a number of Tapas Bars, both sophisticated and rustic, sampling the best the city had to offer in the way of the moreish small snacks and delicacies traditionally served in bars and cafes.
After their mouthwatering meander on the culinary trail, Quilla reported to Mum Cherie that she's never had a birthday quite like it.
Cherie duly reported the delicious details to us all and had our taste buds tingling.
Happy birthday Quilla!
Birthdays this week
CLOSER to home, two Elands residents celebrate milestones this week.
Best wishes to Tim Thede-Seaton who turns 16 and Dekyong Sun who is 21 again.
It seems like five minutes ago that Tim was being dandled on our knees, and these days Dekyong is doing plently of dandling herself with three grandaughters keeping her busy in the most delightful fashion.
Long and happy lives to you both, and all the other Bulga Virgos.
Old favourites settle in
MICHAELA Nagel and John Erbacher have moved back to Elands full-time after spending years in Port Macquarie while their kids went through High School.
We're very happy to welcome them back, and have missed them in the interim, but remained in touch through sea-side visits over the years.
They'll move into Paddy and Kaye McCarthy's old house this week, and we couldn't be happier.
Michaela has been flat out assisting with the recent opening of "Bushland Tukka Cafe and Catering" in Bushland, Taree, as part of her work with Manning Support Services. We'll keep our fingers crossed that we can lure John back into the music scene in Elands, as some folk with good memories may remember him as the charismatic frontman of beloved Celtic music band The Eireheads of years gone by.
Pizza night this Friday
ROB and Jewels Donalato have been firing up their pizza oven at the Elands shop on a semi-regular basis, and this Friday they're at it again with delicious savoury and sweet pizzas from around 5pm onwards.
It's a great way to wind down at the end of the working week and catch up with local news.
This Friday is also a celebration of Amanda Musico's birthday, and she's arranged for some brilliant live music, so join us for what promises to be a great night, rain or shine.
Culture vulture kids
THEATRE loving pupils from Bobin and Elands schools will attend the Manning Entertainment Centre today to see one of the most well-loved of childrens' books brought to life on stage.
Tall Stories theatre company are performing an adaptation of "The Gruffalo" and the matinee session is sold out.
We can't wait to hear their impressions of the show, and it's great to see our tireless and wonderful teachers getting the wee ones down to Taree to see some quality childrens' theatre.
I'll be there to welcome them at the Box Office and if you're reading this and your child hasn't seen it, tickets are available for the 6pm matinee tonight, and all are welcome.
