Only head separated the winner, Monsoon Magic (second for McBurney), Port Macquarie’s Serpentine and Rodeo Chute Out, trained at Port by Glen Hodge a finish that had the big crowd roaring, Times racing correspondent Doug Ryan reported.
Port jockey Craig Rixon continued his recent Lotto win luck in securing the Wicket Wizard mount due to the suspension of Alan Robinson.
“Robbo asked me if I would ride the horse and I thank him,’’ an elated Rixon said after riding his first Taree Cup winner.
Scone Racing and Breeding Partnership Syndicate manager Keith Grocott said connections had targeted the cup a month ago with Wicked Wizard and everything worked to plan.
