From the police: A MAN has died after being found in surf off Old Bar Beach near Taree this morning.
Emergency services were called about 7.40am today (Friday, July 11), when surfboard riders found the man unconscious.
He was taken to the beach and CPR commenced however, he died at the scene.
It’s believed the man lives locally and is aged in his 70s, but he is yet to be formally identified.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Earlier report: A MAN, believed to be in his mid-to-late-60s has reportedly drowned at Old Bar Beach this morning.
According to eye witness accounts about five surfers were in the water when someone on the lookout with binoculars spotted what they thought was a man floating.
Some locals with a surf rescue board, as well as a couple of the surfers, made their way to the man and were able to begin to bring him in to shore, however he was unresponsive and there was reportedly "no pulse".
Police and paramedics were on the scene within minutes, while the Westpac Rescue Helicopter also arrived to assist but we believe the man could not be saved.
