MAJOR road links and two important bridges in the Manning Valley region will be replaced with the assistance of $10 million in Australian Government funding.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said this contribution would greatly assist the Greater Taree City Council to deliver the Taree Roads and Bridges Package.
“The Australian Government is focused on delivering better infrastructure and a stronger economy for regional Australians,” Mr Truss said.
“The package aims to improve road and bridge access for local communities around Taree, Wingham, Manning Point, Old Bar, Moto and Dyers Crossing.
“These upgrades will improve access to the region and benefit the many tourists who visit the area as well as local residents and businesses.
“Local governments play a pivotal role in bringing communities together and providing local solutions to local problems.
“Providing the necessary support for local councils to deliver for their communities is integral to the Australian Government’s plan to achieve a good bottom line for the nation.”
Mr Truss said funding for the project had been transferred from the proposed Taree Northern Gateway project which has not received the anticipated matching contributions.
Federal member for Lyne David Gillespie said the upgrade will boost the local economy, improve connectivity, increase productivity and create jobs.
“In addition to improving safety and connectivity, these upgrades will also enhance the amenities in the area, which will have a positive impact on land values,” Dr Gillespie said.
“Once the upgrades to the roads and bridges are complete, they will require less maintenance, therefore reducing the financial burden on the Greater Taree City Council.”
The funding will be administered by Greater Taree City Council and is in addition to the $1.1 million already provided to Stage 1.
