The windy, inclement weather added another dilemma to an already difficult game with the Warriors already hit with a massive injury toll from the previous week.
The Wingham boys, filled with a young regiment stepping up from reserve grade, knew what was on the line and had to come out fighting to be any chance to come away with points from an inform Wildcats side.
Warriors' backs were to the wall, having lost their last four games on the trot and not playing in a way that things would change.
Alex Ihlow scored the first goal in the game with a glancing header hit home with power from a set play that would have Tim Cahil in awe with the execution.
Taree soon equalised the score with some sloppy marking leaving a yawning gap straight through the centre and the Wingham central backs were caught out of position.
The score was 1-1 and the next 60 minutes of football was a real arm wrestle with both teams unable to hold possession for any length of time and the windy conditions made wayward passes the norm.
Taree did have the better run of play in the second half and more goal scoring opportunities than Wingham. Taree missed the accuracy of Ricky Campbell who may have sunk one of the opportunities.
Wingham to their credit toughed out the attacking raids and Dave Castro for the first time this season stepped up his game to play to the potential of a first grade keeper.
Next week the Warriors take on Camden Haven at Wingham and will need to play with the same intensity and more if they are to secure points. Players' player was Dave Castro who kept the boys in the game with some awesome saves.
More positive news in the ranks with Griff Bell back on the bench after a serious knee injury has not allowed him time on the pitch.
Come out and support your local team in a much needed win against Camden Haven 1.15pm this Saturday reserve grade 3 pm first grade.
