SPORT in Greater Taree kicks off again this week after a break for the long weekend.
Saltwater Malibu Boardriders Club members are hoping for some waves on Sunday for their monthly contest. The last two were abandoned because of a lack of swell.
Surfers meet at 7am at Saltwater Point and president John Cooling assures that newcomers will be made welcome.
Golfers at Taree will play a stableford on Saturday while on Sunday the golf management committee has called a meeting to discuss ways to get more people playing the game. The meeting will be held at the Melaleuca Room at Club Taree and will get underway from 11.30am.
Saturday will be a busy time for Manning BMX Club members. They'll have a garage sale at the Urura Lane track from 7am, while elite rider and coach, Blake Moore, will conduct a coaching clinic from 9am. Club racing will start at 3pm.
In Group Three Rugby League Wingham wants a hooker. Regular rake Adam Kerr will miss Sunday's game against Port City at Wingham and coach Stu Baker admits his options are limited as he looks to find a replacement.
In other games on Sunday Taree City hosts Macleay Valley, Old Bar meets Port Macquarie at Port Macquarie and Forster-Tuncurry makes the trip to Wauchope to tackle the premiers. North Coast will also play Greater Western Tigers at Wyong on Saturday in the semi-final of the tier two Country Championships.
There are some crucial games in the Football Mid North Coast Premier League. Taree Wildcats make the trip to play equal fourth placed Kempsey Saints while Old Bar - also in fourth place - will host Port Saints. Co-competition leaders Wallis Lake take on third placed Camden Haven while Macleay Valley and the other co-leader, Port United do battle.
Wingham, currently in the cellar, takes on Port FC at Wingham in what could be a season defining clash for the home side.
Manning Ratz will be out to make Old Bar's lean season even leaner in the Lower North Coast Rugby Union fixture at Taree Rugby Park on Saturday. Forster-Tuncurry will look to avenge a first round loss to Gloucester while Myall Coast and Wallamba clash in the other games.
The Wauchope Cup will be run and won at the Port Macquarie racetrack on Sunday.
Former test cricket opening bowler Geoff Lawson will be the guest speaker at a function organised by the Northern NSW branch of the Lord's Taverners at Club Taree on Saturday night.
