WELL a change of weather was on order for the weekend and it happened, allowing two boats to get out to sea for the Bluewater Section of Wingham Service Bluewater Fishing Club's May outing over Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18. 'Mako' skippered by Wayne Reeves with crew of Gary Green were successful with a catch of some nice flathead and Dolphin Fish whilst 'KJ x 2" skippered by Jack Muxlow and Steve McGann caught a somewhat smaller catch of flathead and even a red groper much to their delight.
Five other members Les Rose, Sharon Atkins, Debra Unger, Nigel Dick and Joshua Short tried their hand in the river section and came home with a few.
A total of 27 ½ kgs of fish were caught made up of dolphin fish, flathead, red groper, flounder and bream were caught giving both weigh master Les Rose and recorder Neil Miller a job to do.
The Bluewater section was taken out by Steve McGann, whilst the River Section went to Les Rose and Secret Species went to Wayne Reeves. Joshua Short took home the club vouchers - a first time winner.
President Jack Muxlow thanked all members for their attendance, to Chef Derek and kitchen helpers Maree and Margaret for preparing and cooking up the barbecue for the 26 members in attendance
Two members were celebrating birthdays this month, Chris Burdett on Tuesday May 20 and Pam Muxlow on Wednesday May 28 and were treated to a birthday cake on behalf of the members and this was shared by those present after the candles were blown out.
A working bee has been set down for Saturday May 31 and Sunday June 1 to help clean up out at the Wingham Rifle Club in readiness for the June long weekend shoot and it is hoped that members will be able to help with this.
The next outing will be held on Saturday June 14 and Sunday 15 followed by a second one for the month of June on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 so hope to see you all there.
Preliminary notice was given of the Laurieton weekend coming up and this is always a very popular event, deposits will be accepted by treasurer Pam Muxlow from those wishing to attend. Following the long weekend in October the club is looking at participating in the Broken Propeller Fishing Competition hosted by Laurieton Fishing Club over the weekend October 24-25, more details as they become known.
'Til next month, take care and look after yourselves when out boating or fishing on the rocks.
