Terry Stanton and Friends in Concert will raise funds for the Numbulwar Aboriginal Community, a poverty stricken village on the Western edge of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
It is the second year the concert has been organised with more than $1000 being raised in 2013.
Organiser Terry Stanton said the acoustics in the church are superb and guests will be treated to performances by The Club Taree Community Concert Band, Albert Quartet, soprano Deirdre Sutherland, tenor Ronan King-Rose, baritone Fabian Pertzel and Sandra Kwa and Pam Archer on piano.
Entry to the concert is by gold coin donation though Terry said "your support of these poor people and by making the biggest donation you can afford would be greatly appreciated."
All funds raised will go towards much needed essentials for the remote village.
Terry said organisers were shocked last year to discover the money raised was spent on such essential items as cheap shoes and orange juice. "When we looked at the receipts we realised they had to pay twice as much for everything as we do," said Terry, "these people are poor and very isolated."
It was a full church last year with more than 80 people coming to enjoy the afternoon that includes tea, coffee and biscuits. The concert will be held on Saturday May 17 at 2.30pm at St Matthew's Church, Bent Street Wingham. All welcome, "just turn up" said Terry.
