Kimbriki rider Emily Foster has qualified for the Appaloosa Nationals and travelled to Tamworth to compete from Tuesday May 6.
It is the Wingham High School student's first National level competition.
Here Emily tells her own story:
I’ve loved horses for as long as I can remember. My first pony was a Shetland named Jo Jo; a very naughty girl who used to run flat out then hit the skids. My second pony was a beautiful Welsh Mountain pony mare named Princess. She was well educated and gave me confidence and trust. We attended many local shows and did well.
After a couple of years I was ready to go on with a taller horse. An Appaloosa named Feather had been on our farm from a foal and was green broken. I was keen to ride him so Mum and Dad sent him off to be trained by a local horse educator Chad Brady. They wanted to make sure Feathers would be safe for me to ride. Chad did an awesome job. So Feathers and I have been a team ever since, attending Wingham Pony Club and local shows.
In 2013 I joined the East Coast Appaloosa, Paint Western Performance Club in Wauchope NSW. All the members made me feel so welcome. I received a huge amount of help from some very experienced women who have been there done that – quite a few at National level. One of the members suggested I attend the Appaloosa State Show at SIEC in January 2014. So preparation started weeks before with help from awesome trainer Michelle Bruce. I came away with a 1st in Dressage, a 1st in Showmanship, 3rd Hunter under Saddle, 2nd in Hack and 1st Hunter in Hand.
Double C Saddlery in Wingham has generously offered to sponsor me in future competitions – thank you. So now I’m preparing for the Nationals at Tamworth in early May 2014. I’m looking forward to it very much. Wish me luck!
The 2014 Australian Appaloosa Association (AAA) National Show will be held at Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), Tamworth from May 6-10.
