Pam cuts the ties

MAKING the decision when to retire is always difficult when you have been in a job for over 30 years. Wingham High School this week farewelled Food Tech teacher Pam Riall after she eventually made the choice to retire.

After a faculty morning tea where colleagues wished Pam farewell, she was more than surprised to find about 40 people gathered for a dinner in her honour at The Bean Bar on Saturday evening. Included in the special guests were Neida Knowles who Pam had replaced in 1981 as well as other retired staff, friends and present colleagues.

Speeches from Julie Leslie and Damien Keen reflected on the good and funny times of Pam’s teaching and personal life with both speakers relating many a humorous story from the past. An extraordinarily beautiful cake decorated with all things relating to textiles and food technology by Pam’s replacement teacher Claire Twaddle was then cut.

Reading the daily school notice has been on Pam’s to do list while on leave but this may become a thing of the past as she fills her days with the many suggestions given to her by many of the guests at the dinner.

All the best for the future.
