CRAIG Harrison of Wingham Remedial Massage is trading people for horses when he attends a special equine therapy course at the Riding for Disabled Manning Great Lakes Centre.
Craig has been helping people realign their bodies since 2000 but he noticed instant and better results once he introduced the Emmet Technique into his work.
"My business tripled," he said admitting he now enjoys a busy schedule that is booked eight weeks in advance.
The Emmett Technique is a simple muscle release therapy developed by Australian therapist Ross Emmett.
Popular in Europe, the technique has been hugely successful with animals and the level one course being offered at the RDA is for anyone who would like to be able to get the best from their animal.
Craig is convinced anyone can learn the technique. "It's very simple, that's what I love about it," he said.
Craig is curious to see how the technique he uses professionally on people can be adapted for horses.
"I'm used to balancing two legs not four," he laughs.
But Craig's interest goes further than simple curiosity.
Craig and partner Alison Allan have stayed on cattle stations whilst travelling and Craig has always ended up helping the workers in the evening with their aches and pains.
It makes sense to Craig that he could now work on the horses by day - whose bodies are invariably misaligned after holding a rider whose own body is 'out'.
It has taken Craig two years to get the course to Taree and he expects the 12 available places will be filled by horse owners, trainers, pony club members and possibly vets.
Craig has helped co-ordinate the course with nationally respected horse and human Emmett Muscle Therapist, Gary Wells who will be conducting the two day event.
"We are so lucky to get Gary to come to Taree," Craig said. "He is one of the best in the country."
The Emmett 4 Horses course will be held on April 5 and 6 at the Riding for Disabled Manning Great Lakes Centre, Rainbow Flat.
Attendees can bring their own horse if they wish or work on the RDA horses.
