Federal Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie, welcomed Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce’s announcement that greater support will be made available for farm businesses, families and communities across Australia.
“The Federal Coalition Government appreciates that primary industry is a key pillar of the economic and social health of nation,” Dr Gillespie said.
“I’m thrilled to see the Australian Government stand by Australia’s farmers in good times and bad.”
The package of measures announced on February 26 offers financial, social and mental health support to farming families, farm businesses and rural communities suffering from drought.
Of significant interest to local farmers is the Interim Farm Household Allowance (Interim FHA).
According to the 'Drought support for farmers fact sheet', the Interim FHA will help farm families with their daily living expenses and is available to eligible farmers Australia-wide, without the need for a drought declaration.
Farmers can call 13 23 16 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm local time) for further information about the Interim FHA.
