THE weather for the first outing of the Wingham Services Bluewater Fishing Club last weekend was a real stinker heat wise and not much better weather wise.
There was a great roll-up of members at the barbecue and weigh-in held at the Wingham Rifle Club when 34 people including four children enjoyed some tasty goodies cooked up by 'Captain Cook' Derek Boughton under very trying conditions.
Ten registered as having fished with a total of 24 fish caught which weighed 10kgs, including bream, snapper, flathead, teraglin and flounder.
Chris 'Chook' Poleszczuk won the beach, rock and estuary section with a nice flathead and received the Charcoal Chicken voucher for his effort.
Allan Vowles, long time member and dedicated fisher, took out the blue water section, winning the Wingham Services Club voucher for his catch.
Life member Col McNeill was the lucky winner of the club vouchers.
President Jack Muxlow advised members of the passing of club member Bob McGillivray at the end of December and thanked those members who had been able to attend his farewell service at the crematorium. Get well wishes also were sent to member Donna Sullivan who is having a difficult time at the moment but we all hope to see her back with us soon and to Les Rose, club weighmaster who is down with the flu at the moment, to you both, get well soon.
The annual presentation evening has been set down for Saturday, March 22. Bookings will open soon.
The next outing will be held Saturday - Sunday, February 15-16 when it is hoped that some good fishing will be had.
