Saturday Competition
WE start our yearly golf report with the first of the 2014 Taree Motorama Monthly Mugs, MRD Electrical Medals and of course, the Kangaroofing long drives. A good field for this time of the year of 61 players battled with very dry and hot conditions on Saturday, but conditions that obviously did not affect young Kyle Blanco, returning a magnificent 63 nett off his 27 handicap. Speaking of his handicap Kyle had better get used to a new one after that round. Kyle also won the C grade MRD Electrical medal as well as the Taree Motorama mug. C grade net went to Graham Henwood with 92/68 nett. In the other grades Rod Brown had a par round to record 68 nett as well, therefore winning the medal and the net. Mone Vilayrack did likewise in B grade with 82/68. Scratch winners were Adam Beattie (A grade with 78), Paul Shepherd (B grade with 87) and Trevor Abbott (C grade and 92 'off the stick'). In the ball competition Rex White won the last ball with nett 75 on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were a mixed lot with a few pin positions obviously hard to get to. Rod Brown won the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Cam Darby hit one close to win the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th, Don Gutterson did likewise to win the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th and finally Adam Beattie completed a great day winning both the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th and the Bent on Food 9th/18th. In fact Adam's shot of less than a metre on the 9th/18th was the best of the day, therefore also winning him the Caddy's Restaurant "Shot of the Day". Congrats Adam.
Adam also figured prominently in the Kangaroofing long drive competition, winning A grade with a good shot, as did Paul Shepherd in B grade and Kyle Blanco in C grade.
Wednesday Twilight Ambrose
WITH the first Wednesday of the year falling on New Year's day, only a relatively small field of 33 players turned out Wednesday for the mid-week ambrose. However despite the small number, scores were quite good, the best from Polley's team, captained by the family matriarch, Denise Polley winning with 29/24 nett. Two shots back in second spot with 32/26 was the "Dragons" team (Mark Styles), followed by "Fog dog chop" (Reid Brown) with 31/28.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
A GOOD field of 43 players played in the LJ Hooker chook run this week, and scoring again was exceptional. Best was Earle Braham taking a well earned rest from work with a massive 25 points (two over par round). Earle beat second placed Rod Walch (24 points) on a countback, Rod in turn beating third placed John Halpin also on a countback. Fourth spot went to the reliable Ken Squires (23 points), fifth to Graham Mansfield (22 on a countback), sixth Mark Fotheringham (22 points) and finally seventh to my plating partner, Rex White with 21 points, also on a countback. Nearest to the pins were won by Rod brown on the third hole and Graham Mansfield on the seventh (14 cm from the hole).
Coming events
THIS Saturday is a single stableford event for the Coles Supermarket trophy with the John Hynes sponsored "lefties" versus "righties" single stableford the following week on January 18. Good luck and good golfing.
