MANNING Local Area Command said the crowds were well behaved at last weeks' Christmas Carnival. An officer on duty said there was a big difference in the behaviour of those attending from previous years due to the rides only being available for under 12 year olds. The youth were said to be very receptive to the family atmosphere of the event.

The Wingham Chamber of Commerce said the carnival was once again a success for the chamber -numbers were on a par with previous years despite this year restricting rides to under 12s only.
The chamber said it was a gamble it had chosen to take to ensure the evening was peaceful and a safe and enjoyable place for younger children to be. Anti-social behavior was happily absent and the mood was calm and enjoyable.
Many parents have commented their younger children were more confident to go on rides this year, so much so there were long waits for the bungee trampoline ride with some very excited children venturing on for the first time.
The older children seemed to be enjoying themselves also and we were impressed with their mature attitudes and understanding of the chamber's good intentions. Water bombing the bed races seemed to keep many amused!
The bed races were again very successful with six teams competing. In the final were the Venturers and Wingham Sporting Complex with Wingham Sporting Complex taking out the coveted title.
The Wingham Chamber of Commerce organises the carnival each year as a thank you to the people of Wingham for supporting our businesses throughout the year.
The members are all volunteers and busy small business owners who said they can only do so much with the time and resources available.
The Wingham Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all member businesses for their support and for the community for coming along.
The chamber would also like to thank the following organisations that help make the annual carnival possible:
Taree Vehicle Rescue Association
SES
Taree Police
All our sponsors
Wingham Scouts
Wingham Rotary
The market stall holders
Wingham Show Society
Community of Christ
Quota
Junior Cricket
Lions Club
A special mention also of the long standing and good relationship with Browns Amusements who provide all the rides.
The chamber is committed to serving the community and is already making plans for the carnival next year.
