Saturday competition
ONTO the golf and last Saturday was day one of the two week Saxby's Soft Drinks two player aggregate stableford.
Seventy-one players turned out for this popular event and leader after day one is the combination of Bill Sullivan and Don Gutterson with 38/40 for a total of 78 points.
They lead from Richard Dudgeon/Tony Lattimore 36/40 (76 points) and Franz Schubert/Wes Neil 36/38 (74 points total).
In the individual section John Turner had the best round of 42 points, from Gary Masters (39) and Graham Henwood (38 points).
Balls went out to 68 aggregate with Larry Thompson and James King the final winners.
Nearest to the pins were a little harder to win this week with the reduced run, however Franz Schubert had no such trouble on the 4th/13th All About Conveyancing hole winning with just over a "foot" (32 cm). As a result Franz also won the Caddies Restaurant "shot of the week". Other winners were Murray McCartney on the 1st/10th Wingham Plaza Butchers hole, Ray Mathews visiting from Taree won the 3rd/12th, Dennis McKeough the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods and Ben Marron hit one close to win the Bent on Food 9th/18th hole.
Wednesday veterans
ANOTHER good field of 53 players played a single stableford this past week, Cec Pedron winning the day with a well compiled 41 points. Dave Elliott's good form continued, his 40 points edging out Barry Miles's 39 points. Nearest to the pins were of a very high standard, John Thompson winning the 7th/16th with a great shot and "cousin" Terry Thompson doing likewise on the 3rd/12th hole.
Wednesday twilight ambrose
SIXTY one players enjoyed great weather and cousin conditions this week, with scoring just that little harder. Tea bags (captained by AJ Miller) won the day with a fine 30/ net 26 by three quarters of a shot from Happy Campers (Andrew "Sink" Stone), Manning Smash Repairs (Bob Polley) third and Kings (Jake Smith) fourth.
Reece Small won the NTP on the 3rd hole, Paul Latimore won the port and Graeme styles won the cooked chook.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
A GREAT field of 39 players also enjoyed the softer, cooler conditions Thursday, and again good scoring was a little harder than previous weeks.
Peter Wakeling has been in good consistent form over recent weeks and he again emerged the winner, his 22 points winning on a countback from an unlucky Rohan Abbott. Ian Scarr was third with 21 points, again on a countback from Terry Wood (fourth) and Sandy Dunn (fifth). Ken Squires won the NTP on the 3rd hole and Mark Fotheringham won the 7th with a good shot into the wind.
