In the other game Nancy Sandford and Graeme Ireland held on to win 22-19 against Jim Gillogly and Narelle Foy. Zone 8 RSL Lawn Bowls
THE annual Zone 8 versus Zone 7 fixture was held at the Urunga Bowling Club and both zones had their full complement of 12 teams plus two extra.
After the club was officially handed over by the CEO of Urunga BC, Zone 7 president Macca welcomed president Charles from Zone 8 and with the ode completed players made their way to the greens and the games began
Many new friendships were started and old friends renewed their association. The greens were in fine condition but the wind played havoc with bowls, this didn't deter everyone from having a few liquid refreshments and all games were played with that competitive edge.
After the games were completed players adjourned to the club where many stories were told while enjoying some liquid refreshments, then lunch was served and once again the meals presented by the club were top class. It was then down to the results, once again Zone 8 bought home the bacon as they have done for the last 10 years, 249 points to 226 with a six and a half rink win to five and a half rinks. After president Charles was returned the shield for another 12 months, raffles were drawn and some happy people walked away with meat trays etc.
To Zone 7 we thank you for your warmth and friendship, to Urunga BC your greens, bar kitchen staff the hospitality was excellent. Next year the shield will be played for at Port Panthers BC.
