Saturday October 7
THE September feature producers at Wingham Farmers' Market is Kara Woodward of 'Petals, Paws and Claws'. She sells chemical free plants, produce and cut flowers.
Kara is a fairly new producer, having established her business earlier this year after a career change from teaching.
This new venture is based from her property near Elands, close to the beautiful Ellenborough Falls. The 32 hectares grow an assortment of flowers and vegetables. It is definitely a work in progress, with development of an apple and pear orchard underway, and more extensive flower beds. Kara has a passion for flowers, and says she especially likes unusual flowers, as well as the showy old-fashioned ones such as dahlias. She also has a passion for animals and keeps a menagerie at home including two adopted cows that assist by mowing the grass and providing ample manure – hence the name 'Petals, Paws and Claws'.
In establishing her new business, Kara has welcomed help from all quarters. This includes from fellow stall holder Pat Byram of Good Ol' Mum's, who Kara says has assisted immensely. Pat now also has a marmalade made from Kara's Seville oranges! In return Kara offers to freely talk to customers and offer advice where she can.
At the Wingham Farmers' Market this Saturday Kara will have a range of potted flowers, herbs and fruit such as strawberries and boysenberries, as well as citrus fruit and cut flowers. You can also find her goods at the farm gate, and at the Gloucester, Forster, Nabiac and soon the Taree Farmers' Market.
The Wingham Farmers' Market is on this Saturday from 8am till midday at the Wingham Showground.
New stallholders are always welcome, with site fees waived at your first market. If you do not have enough for a stall produce can be sold through community stall, with a cut of the proceeds assisting the running of the markets. Direct stall holder enquiries to Annette on 6550 7213.
