LACHLAN McCormick of Wingham will take to the field in a rugby international when The Armidale School hosts a clash between the NSW Country Schoolboys and the touring Fijian Schoolboys XV on Monday.
The match, on Monday September 23 with a kickoff at 2.30pm, will be the first game on tour for the Fiji boys, before they play New Zealand Schools, Australia A Schools and Australian Schools.
The match will be the season’s last for McCormick, who was a member of the TAS First XV which defeated Newington College in Sydney two weeks ago, delivering his team the GPS third grade premiership.
He is anticipating a challenging match. “They will be big, fast, and have good ball handling skills,” McCormick believes.
“Apparently one of their props is 140kg, so we’ll just have to go all out – it will be a pretty awesome opportunity,” he said.
The Fiji match will be a home-ground affair for McCormick and four other members of NSW Schoolboys, Will Frost, Jackson Gilbey (both Armidale), Lachlan McCormick (Wingham) and Lachlan Mack (Bingara).
Former Wallaby and current Northern Suburb’s coach Scott Fava will be making the trip to Armidale for the game and will be special guest at a dinner the night before. He will also been joined on the day by NSW Waratah Paddy Ryan to cheer on the Country boys.
“This will be a great opportunity for all the boys to play a quality international game, and it is a privilege for TAS and Armidale to host such a high-calibre fixture,” NSW Country Schools Team Manager Jim Pennington said.
