ON Monday August 19 Zone 8 had a social day at the Tuncurry Bowling Club.
We were to have played at Tuncurry Sporties for the Tom Webster memorial trophy but due to the possibility of only having half our normal bowlers play the venue was changed to Tuncurry.
Zone 8 would like to thank Tuncurry Sporties who have had this day for quite a few years but when economics come into the equation things change and the executive of Zone 8 had no option but to change the day and the venue.
116 bowlers were in attendance at Tuncurry BC, the weather was perfect, green's were running as normal and liquid refreshments were enjoyed by all and sundry.
After the official handover of the club by President Duncan McDiarmid the ode was called by Vice President Ken Towers in the absence of President Charles Fisher. Cards were then called and off to the greens went our bowlers.
Much talking and socialising went on and at the end of the morning bowls players adjourned to the confines of the club to have cold drinks red wine and even coffee.
Lunch was then served and Tuncurry certainly put on a spread of fish, chips salad, rissoles and vegetables with no complaints.
With lunch over the winners were announced, they being, A Hughes, D Hannah, B Kirby / T Langdon, T Schollum, R Millican and G Purnell, R Mace, R O'Connell.
After the presentations, raffles were drawn and 20 meat trays were gladly accepted by those present.
To Tuncurry Bowling Club, greens, bar and dining room staff we say many thanks and we hopefully will come back next year, also Zone 8 Ladies Auxilliary, as usual they did a wonderful job with raffles and general organising so many thanks.
The day concluded with the wine merchants holding court then players moved to their respective cars, buses and the day finished.
Next game, Monday September 16 at Port City BC , September 23 Bi monthly meeting at Lake Cathie BC, October 14th, North vs South, Lake Cathie BC.
Till next time, good bowling.
