A NUMBER of Wingham Junior Hockey Club teams played their last round of junior hockey before the start of the final series this weekend.
The under 7's and 9's finished their season with a gala day followed by a short presentation.

In their last game of the season, Sharks dominated the attack scoring a 9 - 0 win over the Wingham team. Rhyan Hudson and Erica Colvin both played a great game for Wingham.
Under 13 - Wingham Wipeouts v Sharks
Talea Fernance was the only goal scorer for Wingham in their 3 - 0 loss to Sharks. Damon Hoole played an outstanding game.
Under 13 - Tigers Retravision v Wingham Allstars
This was a close contest between the two teams however it was the Wingham Allstars who came out in from 3 - 2. Cassidy Mills (2) and Clancy Johnston both scored for Wingham and Pat Luckie had a great game.
Under 15 - Tigers Leagues Club v Wingham White
The team had a 9 - 0 win over Tigers in what was their final match for the season.
The score was not an indication of how competitive the match was and the Tigers players should be pleased with their efforts. Some of the younger players in the club had to be called up to fill in for some of our regulars who were in Newcastle trying out for the Hunter Academy of Sport Hockey Program.
The younger players were not intimidated playing in an older age group. Ryan Hudson who is an Under 11 player scored a goal and showed excellent stick work and positional play.
Blake Hudson who is a standout player in the association competition controlled the match well giving his team mates many opportunities to score and scoring 3 goals himself. Harrison Deane, a new member to the club this year, showed a liking for his new position as central striker and used his speed to great advantage.
Tyson Hoole scored 2 goals from excellent crosses from the right wing. Goalie Josh Lythgoe had a great run in the forwards. His replacement keeper Zac Shelden another young player did not let the team down and played a pivotal role in defence.
All players had strong games and should be valued players for the club in the future seasons. A special thank you to Heather Hemmingway for managing the team which was appreciated by both the players and their families.
The team management would like give a special thank you to the player's families for their encouragement and support given to the team throughout the season.
Other scorers for the team were Maddy Mead and Damon Hoole.
Division 3 Women - Taree West v Wingham
The final game for the season saw the team lose 3-2 in a close fought match to the team leading in the competition, Taree West, who will go on to compete in the final series.
The match was heading for a two all draw only to have the opposition score in the last five minutes. Wingham scored two great team goals - one scored from a great run from our central striker Fiona Coleman who passed to Fiona Poole to score.
The other scorer for the team was Chelsea Becker who was in the right spot to score. Fiona Wilkes a novice player at the beginning of the season had a great game in defense as did Jackie Visintin and Maggie Sky.
Emma Nielsen had a strong game as centre half and the younger players Stephanie Poole, Chelsea Becker, Natalie Webster , Maddy Mead and Brooke Shelden have formed a strong nucleus for the team and all goes well for the future.
