AFTER residents of the Wingham Showground caravan park were issued with eviction notices from the showground trust, we spoke with a representative of Greater Taree City Council to determine the current status of the caravan park.
It was confirmed that GTCC granted a Development Consent for part of the Wingham Showground site to be used as a caravan park. However at no time has consent been sought or granted for use of any of the caravan park sites as long term sites.
The consent was issued subject to conditions including condition number two and 25 which are reproduced below:
Condition number two
'The proposed caravan park/camping ground will have to comply with the Local Government (Caravan Parks, Camping Grounds and Moveable Dwellings) Regulation 1995'
Condition number 25
The 12 camp/caravan sites are to be used as short term sites only.
GTCC staff recently inspected the caravan park site with members of the current Trust. A council spokesperson said they conducted the inspection in order to ascertain the extent of works required to be completed.
Council confirm that many works required to be undertaken as part of the consent have not been completed or commenced and the operation of the caravan park is not in accordance with the consent.
For several years Council has been seeking the cooperation of the Trust to ensure that the caravan park was constructed and operated as approved.
Although Council has issued letters requiring compliance with the consent, to date no formal order or notice of intention to serve an order has been issued.
